Characteristics

1.

Agro-ecological situation

In Patiala District 100% of the net cultivated area is irrigated. Out of which 97.8% area is irrigated by tubewells & wells and approx. 2.2% area by canals. In most of the region, submersible pumps are being used due to rapid decline of water table

The Patiala District has almost plain topography with only some of the area having undulating topography. The land is generally homogenous and the flood plains of Tangri, Ghaggar and Markanda streams intercept the region transversally.

3.

Soil: Sandy loam

The soils are light to medium in texture. However, medium to heavy soils are also found in small pockets of Bhunerheri, Ghanaur and Rajpura blocks.
